Bizhan Tong
Bizhan Tong is a British-born Chinese filmmaker, producer, and entrepreneur with almost 20 years of experience creating genre-driven stories that bridge East and West. As the founder of Phoenix Waters Productions, with offices in Hong Kong and London, he has led international films and series known for their bold, cross-cultural appeal.
His credits include the Hong Kong crime series Forensic Psychologist, the UK-HK thriller The Audition, the award-winning British drama The Escort, and the 2024 remake of Richard Linklater’s TAPE, which premiered at the Raindance Film Festival and was nominated for Best International Feature. The film achieved sold-out screenings in Hong Kong, topped audience ratings, and is releasing internationally.
Recognised as a driving force for East-West co-productions, Bizhan frequently speaks at industry events including FilmArt, and has consulted for broadcasters, governments, and media funds across Asia and the UK. He is currently developing a slate of international projects including the action film Shashou (with Korea’s Studio Target), the psychological thriller The Handyman, and the feature documentary Tasting the Depths.
Bizhan is known for building cross-border partnerships, delivering commercial IP, and producing end-to-end in both Hong Kong and the UK. He also serves as a non-executive director of a Hong Kong-based private equity firm, further reinforcing his expertise in cross-border financing and investment strategy.
Trained in mathematics and business (MBA), he brings a rare fusion of analytical thinking and creative storytelling to his work.
